A New Perspective on Gazing Up at the Sky
Have
you ever taken a few minutes to just look up at the sky? Every once in a
while, you might glance up at a plane or a bird. You might notice a
cloud or admire the clear blue expanse. There could be a meteor shower
to watch or an eclipse. The truth is, there’s so, so, so much sky and
the best way to enjoy it may call for a little patience and practice.
Not like a yoga practice, but more along the lines of simply gazing
upward without worrying about anything else. You don’t necessarily have
to empty your mind or anything—just lay down an outdoor blanket, keep
your thoughts alive, and try your hand at sky-gazing.
Have an Open Mind
When you’re sky-gazing, the last thing you want to do is empty your mind—and the first thing you want to do is get comfortable. You want your mind full to brim with thoughts and feelings so you can give all those hypothetical situations, wild thoughts, and big ideas some room to spread their wings. It’s pretty incredible how a little bit of open space and some outdoor down throw blankets can help you see things differently. The open space is the perfect place to let your thoughts overflow, and reliable down throw blankets with gorgeous prints can provide a comfortable, inspiring area for you to relax or imagine exciting new possibilities.
Keep Your Hands Free
Sky-gazing is a hands-free activity. You can keep your hands completely empty or simply keep them ready to capture the sky in a work of art, write a journal entry, take a sip of water, or eat something yummy you roasted over the campfire. When you look up at the sky, it’s the perfect opportunity to put your favorite outdoor blanket to the test. You can find high-quality, weather-resistant camp blankets that are excellent for sky-gazing. The best options even have a cape clip feature that ensures your hands can stay free to paint, photograph, write, sip, munch, and explore the sky like you did as a child.
Take a Step Back
Take a step back from the shoreline, off the trail, or away from the glow from a campfire. Now you can look up and really see the sky in all its glory. You might also want to take a step back from any lingering thoughts or worries. That way, whether you find yourself looking at an ocean horizon, a single imposing tree branch, a small bird, or an ant-sized plane, you can enjoy the moment. It’s all there for you and everyone who squeezed onto your beach blanket to bask in. Best of all, you don’t have to reserve your beach blanket for beach trips. Instead, use it for every outdoor adventure. No matter where you are, you can snuggle between the sky and your beach blanket, knowing that when you shake out the blanket, all the sand and the dirt can fall away and leave you with a fresh canvas for your next adventure.
Sky-gazing doesn’t have to be romanticized or overly complicated. It can simply be a new hobby that takes you back to your childhood, lets your imagination run wild, and allows you to carve out time to enjoy your trusty outdoor blankets. Whether you’re soaking up the moment or experiencing a new kind of adventure for the first time, here’s to looking up.
